Heh, I plan to have stacks of multiple materials. I think there're 20 or so materials right now, so that 20 bytes per person, which is 200 gigs. Plus ANet likes to keep backup copies and so forth
Yes, if they were to allow people to go over 250, the next logical cutoff would be 64-65,000 (the exact number would be 65,536 if I remember correctly.....theres no calculator here to double check with and my coffee hasn't been properly absorbed enough to redo it in my head). Not that they would have to let all those bits be used, mind you, but any that were not usable would be forfeit. When you consider that, it's pretty much all or just a little where materials are concerned...

On the other hand, 1 million bytes is not a gig of information...it's more like a meg, so you guys are off there. assuming they gave us each unlimited (65,000) materials storage space for 35 materials, that's still only 70 bytes per person. Add another byte for object definition, hell, let's judt add 2 just in case, and you get an additional 140 bytes of storage per account. Assuming the definitions we are using are correct and it only takes 2 bytes to define an object and 2 bytes to define the quantity of that object, it would still only be adding a total of less than 280M (yes, Megabytes) of disk space if they let us keep near unlimited materials. I have an episode of Lost on my computer that takes up more space that what that would be. You could fit 110 times that ammount of information on a $250 ipod.

Guys, hard drive space is not an issue in this day and age. It's not an issue for the users, and it's less than a non-issue for the companies. At less than $1 per gigabyte and dropping in value every day, it will never be an issue again. You can buy 100 gigs of space for the price of Guild Wars if you buy hard drives in bulk from Seagate.

I think they just don't want us to hoard everything. Plain and simple. They give us what storage they give us so that we can hold a bunch but not everything we want.

I don't think it's bandwidth. I know it's not disk space. It's most likely a choice of play style that A.Net made long ago....plain and simple.

IMO, any thing is good right now.........

but i would prefer a separate storage for custumised items, weps, armor, cuz my ranger got 5 sets ATM, and its taking waaaaaaaaaay too much place

its about time they gave me a place to store my 65,536 ectos

in all seriousness tho, im definately for an increase in stack size, and if it can go up to 65k without wasting any space, so be it. as has been said many times before, 250 is just an odd number to have as far as (non-rare) crafting materials go. sure, the slot for 250 will help, but anyone who stores these keeps at least enough to craft a full set of armor (and that takes more than 250). ANET may not want us hoarding materials this way, but i dont think it would really hurt anything if some people DID end up with tons and tons of crafting materials.

I don't store materials all that much, so I don't know if I'll really use the new storage option. More general storage would have really been what I desired.

/signed. With 6 toons I'm often hovering just below 1600 plats, and it's not a lot of fun having to tell your farming partner you gotta go buy a couple ectos (which in itself can be frustrating) and you'll be back as soon as you can. Although honestly, if they raised it to say 2000 plats, I'd just be saving up to that.

But the reason I wanted to post is to say....

so......yeah.......Anet......any day now......would be great.........

All of you complaining about only 1 stack, THERES 34 SLOTS, do you honestly carry around 34 different types of materials? I mean seriously....

And another way to look at the limits of 1 stack..:
If your being a packrat and just storing materials for ever and ever... there's less of a market for the materials, im pretty sure Anet would like to see a current and active market for the materials, instead of them sitting in some storage thing to become lost.

I'm a packrat... how hard are wood, bones and stones to find? You can find them just outside Sardelac and have 250 in no time at all... not even worth storing. Yet until my storage became critical I had 1000 of each...

A whopping 250x max per material item across all chars? Not impressed. I recognize and like that progress has been made, but ANet could do so much more ...

I'm just waiting for the complaints to come pouring in about the earth-shattering 300g we have to pay to unlock it for our accounts in full.

I like this update, I have plenty more materials than the storage can hold but hey- it's more space nonetheless.
